HIMMOTHAN PARIYOJANA

Life in central and western Himalaya is not easy as the majority of people here are poor and their access to land, water, and other natural resources is burdened with difficulties. Sustainable resources management with a focus on arresting and reversing the environmental degradation in the Himalayan region was the driving concern of the Himmothan Pariyojana, launched by Sir Ratan Tata Trust, through the involvement of local NGOs and people. The project focuses on the following three objectives:

1.  To explore and generate alternative livelihood opportunities in the hilly
areas which are sustainable and eco-friendly.

2.  To encourage and promote sustainable health and hygiene practices by bringing in improvements in water supply and environmental sanitation services.

3.  To encourage and promote environmental conservation practices by conserving fragile catchment areas and developing watersheds.

SBMA has entered into partnership with Sir Ratan Tata Trust to implement Himmothan Pariyojana in the 2nd phase of its implementation.
