The primary objectives as highlighted by the Umang Group s themselves are as follows:

• To build the capacities of children of Bal Panchayats and youth facilitators as child journalists to sensitise parents, communities and duty bearers on rights of a child and advocate for child rights throuhg media campaign.

•  To support the trained children and youth facilitators to form their Umang groups at village, block and district level and establish Rural Knowledge Centres at the district levels

•  To ensure a sustained media production for the coverage of issues and stories from remote and inaccessible regions of Uttranchal through the district level Children Press Service within the three years of Project implementation;

•  To seek collaborations with mainstream media like print and radio for a space for children to ‘say something' to wider audience.

•  To create a network of Bal Panchayats within Uttranchal through Children Press Service and seek alliance building with other Bal Panchayat s established within working area of Plan International (India) and other organizations through a national level forum within three years of Project implementation;

•  To support ongoing children led advocacy for the development of a Policy on children in Uttranchal.
